Resto is extremely well lit at lunch with its large windows on the corner of hudson and leroy. The lunch sets offer great value vs. the dinner menu. The sashimi set was expertly done and satisfying.

Sukitama Don is the most delish gyudon (thinly-sliced beef rice bowl) in my hood. 😋 Too bad they didn't give as much sauce when you take it to go.
Only 3 seatings a night- 6,7:30,9pm. And need to put your name down starting at 2pm on the clipboard. Omakase is amazing. Also get some of the seasonal pieces like uni on botan and the crab brains.

The sushi is definitely solid but the omakase ($90) isn't that big of a steal, price wise. Instead get the deluxe 10 piece sushi for $45 and add a side or two. I loved the tempura

Best yakitori in New York. Get the omakase and be specific about your favorite type of meats. I recommend asking for as much offals as you can get. The liver is creamy and the heart, sweet and tender.
Sit at the bar and get the omakase. Add the uni garlic over toast if you're really hungry. They are usually packed, make reservations ahead. One Michelin star.
The best tsukune, even better than the one in Tokyo, I ve ever had. Dip it into the fresh egg yolk, then nom!

Good $12.50 lunch specials. I always get the Sanmizen set: Chirashi, Chawanmushi, Cold Soba noodles, Tempura and Miso soup. Service is ok depending on who waits on you.
The ramen is classic, almost as well executed as Ippudo and much lighter, and tastes as good as the wait is painful. Arrive before 6 or wait 90m. Split the two daily ramens.
They rotate chefs. If you go while Ichicoro is still there, go for the spicy brothless soba! It's like a spicy, Japanese carbonara, and it's amazing!

The donburi here is great and the serving sizes are very generous. An app or two plus a donburi will probably fill up 2 people. The handwritten menu on the side? That's where the good stuff's at.

I get their bento boxes for lunch or dinner at least three times a week. Around $6-7 and a good variety. My favourite is the miso salmon. The onigiri aren't amazing, but they're cheap and filling.

I'm so glad this is now closer to work. This location has great soba and donburi, if for some reason you don't want the excellent ramen. The kakuni ramen with Filipino style pork is amazing.

Skip the sushi and go for speciality dishes such as the fake pastas made from seafood (uni cauliflower pasta), uni risotto, & beef fois sukiyaki. Great Austrian dessert wine! Bad selection of teas.

Decent sushi-better than other UES Chinese-owned spots. Toro scallion roll was pretty fresh-not best. Why it's pricier than Yasuda's is beyond me! Cooked items are bland/average. No A/C + club music?!

Matcha and Vanilla soft serve is delicious! almond milk matcha latte. They serve everything matcha, from matcha "doissants (donut and croissants) to matcha cupcakes. Cool interior.

They have recently updated from ordering in grams to ounces because people here don't get the metric system. This location has also given in and now have seats so you don't have to stand anymore.

Soba has great texture. The tempura and egg rolls are popular choices. I had the chicken soup which had a really nice broth. The noodles make the dish. Come before 6pm to avoid the queue.
Around a 30 minute wait at 8:30pm. First trial buckwheat noodles are the way to go. Cold sesame sauce is amazing. Choose thin noodles and def get tempura.

Hidden gem in midtown east. It's a Japanese eatery / piano bar / karaoke. They are so generous with the amount of sashimi they put into a bowl. $22 is so worth it for Uni don. Kirin draft is only $4.
Go upstairs to the Japanese restaurant and go left through the unmarked door. Quiet, intimate, and great drinks. Loved the Smoke in Your Face whiskey cocktail - it's exactly what it sounds like.
There isn't a bad seat in the house, but if you're feeling fancy, ask for a table in the back room. If there isn't one available, sit at the bar to watch the talented team do their magic.
