Carl Griffin: Tikal's highest building. Take the ladder to the top. Best to arrive for sunrise as the howler monkeys give an impressive display as the sun rises above the canopy.
Carl Griffin: A middle eastern thorn that blossums in winter. Supposedly planted by Jesus but more likely by someone returning from crusades or pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Carl Griffin: The original church was destroyed by an earthquake before being rebuilt. The tor was the site of execution of the last Abbot of Glastonbury who was hung, drawn & quartered for remaining loyal to Rome.
Carl Griffin: Lovely dramatic ruins. Check out the Glatonbury thorn and King Arthur's tomb that the monks used to use to con a supersticious public out of their money.
Carl Griffin: Part of the medieval city walls designed to protect ships moored in the nearby quay. Partially destroyed by a tsunami that followed the earthquake of Lisbon in 1755.
