This must-see museum houses over 160,000 portraits of famous Brits (think Mick Jagger, Queen Victoria) dating back to the 16th century. It also is home to a trove of Cecil Beaton images.
A wonderful place for people watching on a sunny day or as a romantic meeting place at dusk, but look out for the pigeons. A visit to the National Gallery is also highly recommended.

It's said to be the oldest pub in Edinburgh. Not very fancy nor old-looking, has a traditional menu. Liked the Haggis and the sticky sausages. Good for lunch...
Whisky selection is almost overwhelming, but fear not--patient and knowledgeable bar staff is there you find something you like
TRAVEL TIP: This fortress is a must see - there's a lot to explore and be sure to check out the graffiti on the outside wall, it has a lot of history behind it!

Go here for some hard to find, fancy vegetarian dining, with interesting flavors bases on vegetables, herbs and spices, rather than an overload of mock meats. There should be more of these restaurants

Excellent ales in a friendly atmosphere. Beer selection is constantly changing with 8 hand pumps serving ale in great condition. A real ale lovers oasis!
All food is cooked completely fresh, so it takes a wee while for everything. It's worth the wait though!

The complex is a site of historical interest in the English city of Bath. The house is a well-preserved Roman site for public bathing. The Roman Baths themselves are below the modern street level.

A fairly standard Nicholson's pub. Apparently, this one had survived two fires in its lifetime, as explained by a plaque near the entrance to the pub.
This city was a Viking settlement during the 7th C called 'Jorvik'...hence York as we know it today. Interesting and unique museum experience in this part of Europe.
For the best views over York, climb the Minster Tower. Costs a few pounds - and you need to be in shape for the climb - but well worth it.
Very nice in the tudor bar. As with all Nicholsons pubs (mostly found in London but a nice surprise to find many in York) seasonal ales mean there's always something new to try for ale fans.
