Not in Chinatown! but tastes like it is. Great soup dumplings but also shredded pork with tofu, dried beef, and other Shanghainese delights.
Totally solid Shanghainese food, unpretentious, hearty. Steamed buns especially good!
Best beef (or chicken, or shrimp) jerky you have ever had. About $9 for a 1/2 lb. Perfect for long plane rides!
The best thing you can do with $1 - buy a carton of fried pork dumplings. With $2 you can get a mess of the equally excellent steamed dumplings! perfect for carbo loading before a bar crawl.
Closes early and hostile to white people, but the fried pork dumplings are like heaven and don't cost more than $2.

There are several of these nearly-identical carts on and aroun Main St, and they're all pretty much the same. And they are all delicious! $1 skewers of cumin-rubbed meats cooked over a charcoal fire.
Not really a restaurant more of a stand! Here is where to get sweet tofu, fresh soy milk, freshly made noodles in different sizes, and chrysanthemum tea. Most items $1 or less.
The spicy chicken jerky is particularly good. So much better than a Slim Jim!
