Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. Roast crab and garlic noodles (or rice) are a great combo. Getting a reservation is great but walk ins can kill time at the bar. Valet to save time.
It's awesome! What's not to like? Curbside outdoor seating, yummy sandwiches & espresso, and a serious bike shop.

Had a great coffee here when we visited SF; one of the best few. Nice place but the atmosphere was rather cold and the limited places to sit were taken up by people silently pawing at their macbooks.
Possibly the best bookstore in San Francisco. Clear layout, peaceful atmosphere and useful recommendations from a friendly and knowledgeable team. Also offers a cute selection of cards and gifts.

City Lights isn't so much 'stocked' as 'curated'. For its size this has to be the best independent bookshop in the world. When you're finished buying go next door to Vesuvio and get drunk.
