The cylindrical panoramic painting of the Civil War Battle of Atlanta here was the largest oil painting in the world until 2004, when it was surpassed in size by a mural at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.
The neighborhood was named for L.P. Grant, a civil engineer for the Georgia Railroad who has been called the "Father of Atlanta." The park is today visited by more than a million visitors annually.
Ground was broken in 1989 & on October 5, 1992, Fernbank Museum of Natural History opened to the public, becoming one of the only museums in the world to grow out of an old-growth forest.
This was the home of Joel Chandler Harris, author of Uncle Remus stories, from 1881 until 1908. The museum opened in 1913, Harris' room is almost completely untouched to this day aside from cleaning.
Atlanta's only surviving drive-in movie theater, it's been entertaining movie fans since 1949 & shows double-feature first run movies. The theater also features a flea market which is open on weekends
The house was known as the Crescent Apartments when she & her husband lived here from 1925 to 1932. While living here, she wrote the bulk of her Pulitzer prize-winning novel, Gone With The Wind.
