Amazing!!! So fun and delicious. Stood at the bar. Did the 7 sake tasting. Then, get a glass of your favorite. Sushi roll, grilled sweet peppers and grilled tomato and bacon were out of this world.
Sukemasa is a tiny and cozy dumpling restaurant that serves delicious gyoza. Their menu has an affordable "Gyoza set" that includes 12 tasty fried dumplings, steamed rice & miso soup. Very cool place.
Probably the best meat I have ever tried. Wagyu sirloin and fillet really melted in my mouth. Well worth the price premium(special menu 13000 JPY). Reserve before!
They have an English menu, but you don't need it because you're ordering a Tonkatsu (とんかつ) set anyway. They give you a bowl of sesame seeds to smash while you wait -- pour the sauce into it and dip!
Try the katsudon! The a la carte menu is great as well. If you go with the set, it comes with cabbage, miso soup, and rice. Their rice is excellent - it has both white rice and barley mixed in.
The curry is as excellent as people say, a fabulous mashup of Indian and Japanese influences, but curry with a selection of Japanese microbrews, as a jazz trumpet riffs in the background? Sign me up.
Delicious shoyu with a lighter broth consistency than others I had in Japan. Makes a great breakfast. The place is full even at 7:00.
Cash only. The "egg in the soup" with soba or udon is the most famous menu. This restaurant is well known within the locals.

The place is simple, yet cool&hip. Their food is exactly the same - simple but very tasty and presentation is spot on. Paid 2500 (!!) for two dinner sets, desert, beer and tea. Service was friedly.❤️
Chill 30-seat yakitori place. Worth trying the more exotic parts of the chicken.. fried kawa (skin) and kodoro (hearts) are highlights. The less adventurous parts are just as tasty!

Really an amazing place. The soba everything (noodles, tea, ice cream, ...) is fantastic. Highly recommended for lunch. It's also great to see them making the soba.
Awesome ramen. Thick broth. Portions are big. Was there 10 minutes after they've opened and the place was full, so there is definitely a possibility of lines. Well worth a detour and/or waiting!
Amazing place with great soba noodles, service, and experience overall. The restaurant is located in a typical Japanese townhouse and is well worthwhile the trip!

Local Kyoto Obanzai cuisine, using only local Kyoto produce and ingredients. Cozy, low-key, delicious. A place where locals come to eat and hangout. Tatami style. Not touristy.
Very good ramen! It is peculiar has you get your own booth and are served through a small window in front of you. You can also personalize the ramen. Get the richest broth. They have English menu.
Fantastic pancakes and tofu steam! Ambiance is great, locals kept walking up to us and asking us how we found this amazing local place and recommending dishes:) overall a wonderful experience!!
Best ramen I've had so far. Even better than the ones in Tokyo. Absolutely amazing. Be careful with sizes, medium is pretty large.
Hard to find but worth it, go in The Cube at the railway station then take the escalators all the way up to the 11th floor then wind your way back down the hallway. Its labelled Katsukura.
300 years noodle makers. Is said that are best noodles in Kyoto. Good prices (around 1000 ¥) and excellent quality. English menu available. Highly recommended!!
Super cheap, large portions. One of my favorite places for okonomiyaki in northern Kyoto. Try the pork for sure.
Both types of gyoza (¥480 for 8) are amazing! Staff is on point and extremely friendly. Get a seat at the bar! 3 large beers, 6 orders of gyoza ¥4400. Best gyoza in Japan
Really good tea house, mostly frequented by couples and women. They are famous for their chilled glass noodle dessert that gets served with a brown sugar sauce that it's unlike anything you'll try!
Chilled Omen udon noodles were the BEST. Served with sesame seeds and spring vegetables like burdock, ginger, scallions, daikon, broccoli rabe, etc. Dipping sauce was subtle but good flavor.
Deservedly popular. A 30min wait on a weekday. Great soba and a great view of the bridge. I particularly recommend the Kyo no Yasai soba. The staff were polite and helpful
Enjoy delicious ramen. The eatery is located at a side of small alley, so you may feel hard to find the eatery. But it's worth to find here. I don't know if English menu is available. Just try it !
Thanks to being located at a place next to the fish market, fresh sea foods are served in this cozy traditional looking restaurant. Yam!
Ippudo Karaka is best soup i have ever tasted!! And don't miss Hakata bite sized dumplings! Veery delicious food and lovely place. I highly recommend.
The best Wagyu A5 restaurant for the price. Go for the 150g Wagyu A5 Sirloin, definitely worth the price. Better be early, have your name on the line. Waiting time nearing lunchtime is about an hour.
Second visit & I'm still so in love with their food! Ordered Japanese BBQ beef and chicken cutlet. Very flavorful & juicy! Tofu steak is superb!! So soft that I couldn't pick it up with my chopsticks!
Simple, delicious and cheap food. The gyozas, the fried chicken and the fried rice are superb. Btw, the beer is super cold, another reason why I strongly recommend this place!

京都背油ラーメン元祖「ますたに」さん。比較的小さな間口の店構えで白川疎水沿いの茂みの奥に佇んでいます。店内は手前にカウンター席、奥にはテーブル席が配置されています。チャーシュー麺並(￥800)を注文。食堂のおじちゃんとおばちゃんがとても優しい雰囲気で心地よい。スープはたっぷり背油が浮いていてこってりしていてとても美味しい。麺は細麺ストレート。銀閣寺道バス停すぐ。おススメです。
