This historic pub on the site of a tollgate was once the haunt of highwaymen, who when caught were hanged nearby. The pub appears in Dickens’ Pickwick Papers and in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

the nutshell is one of smallest pubs in the UK. supposable 101 people crammed into this place. we had 10 in there and i was looking for elbow room. Its definitly a must see enjoy your visit cheers.
The current tavern dates back to 1720, but inns of the same name have stood here since the 14th century. They’re named after the Priory of St.John of Jerusalem which used to stand nearby.
