First-ever recorded baseball game happened here on June 19, 1846. Thus the numbered bases on each corner at 11th & Washington.
Called Butler Fieldhouse when constructed in 1928, it was the largest basketball arena in the US for 20 years. It was renamed in 1966 in honor of coach and athletic director, Paul D. “Tony” Hinkle.

Opening in 1924, it has played host to Army-Navy & Notre Dame-USC football; the Chicago Bears moved here in 1971. The field has been featured in films, including Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers.
Although just a marker remains, this was the site of the Baker Bowl, home of the Philadelphia Phillies from 1887-1938 & was the site of the first World Series game attended by a US president in 1915.
