Despite what it looks like, entrance to the museum is always free! The prices and ticket booths at the entrance are only donations.
Only so many people are allowed in at a given time. Buy your ticket in advance and as soon as you arrive in Florence.
The museum is not designed for large crowds. Buy your tickets in advance to avoid lines and to guarantee entrance.
If you arrive before noon, expect long lines to do all the cruise ships and tour buses that show up at the same time. If you come in the afternoon, you will see much smaller crowds.
