Welcome to the first freestanding structure at a U.S. university erected solely for East Asian collections. It has more than 900,000 volumes, primarily in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
The Free Speech Movement Cafe is on the main floor of the library. Like the library, it's open 24 hours during finals!
The entrance, on the second floor of the Valley Life Sciences Building, features a 65 million year-old Triceratops skull and a cast of a baby Triceratops skull.
Established in 1956, the library is part of the Anthropology complex, including the Dept of Anthropology, Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology, Archaeological Research Facility & Folklore Archive.
This library was was created in 1964 by the merger of four departmental libraries: Architecture; Landscape Architecture; City and Regional Planning; and Decorative Arts.
