It is so called to distinguish it from the old market located in the area of Piazza della Repubblica. It was intended for the sale of silk and luxury goods and then for the famous straw hats.
Before a Fountain of the Piglet now a copy of a bronze wild boar; the original is in Palazzo Pitti. Popular tradition has it that rubbing the nose brings fortune. Visitors place a coin in the mouth.
Originally intended for the Boboli Garden, then moved here. The fountain figure was sculpted and cast by Baroque master Pietro Tacca (1612) following a marble Italian copy of a Hellenistic marble.

It was the door/tower from which the southern part of the city walls began; Is the only door that retains its original height. Since 2011, visitors can climb the tower during the summer months.
The door (1324) has a bas-relief of the 14° century in the lunette of St. George slaying the dragon by Andrea da Pontedera and a Madonna and Child with Sts Leonardo and George by Bicci di Lorenzo.

Piazza Santa Croce is one of the main squares of Florence, located near piazza della Signoria. It takes its name by the Basilica of Santa Croce that overlook the square.
The second largest Franciscan church in the world. Look for a dark mark on the columns; that’s the water level from the Flood of 1966.
It is a Roman Catholic minor basilica, the mother church of the Servite order. The church was founded in 1250 by the 7 original members of the Servite order. In 1252, a painting of the Annunciation.
The fifth floor café has a rooftop terrace giving excellent views of the Piazza sells Repubblica and the Duomo

Hidden door: a 14° century door "Porta a Faenza" that can be identified by looking the Fortezza from the outside (it was incorporated in the fortress during the first half of the 16° century).

Forte Belvedere, founded in 1590 and built by Buontalenti, was created to defend the city, to hold the treasury of the Medici family. It was connected to Palazzo Pitti and Palazzo Vecchio.
Everything here is perfect starting from coffee and finishing with main dishes! And really wonder where do they get those olives! They are the most delicious I've ever tried! Come here for aperitivo!)

They have around 30 types of panino with a fixed price of 3€. There's almost no sauce in them, so you really taste the delicious ingredients. Don't let the line scare you, it's well worth the wait.
moretti for 4.5 eu! i was trying to find a place for toilet, and get inside, grab a beer, bardenter showed me a table full with chips, peanuts and somethings which are italian food and said free!
Great craft beer selection from all over the world. Great music too (Parov Stelar - electro swing). Didn't get a burger, but they look great. The fries were dope!
Lunch is cheap but the time to come is for the aperitivo buffet. From 7pm to 10pm drinks are €8, and accompanied by a huge all you can eat buffet, from pizza and lasagne to couscous and caprese salad.
All of the suggestions are great. Try the prosciutto (ham) with crema di tartufo (truffle) and scamorza affumicata (smoked cheese). Delicious!!!!
Alas what I just said, it is the only gay bar, so there's not much choice and we have to celebrate they exist in this wonderful creative, artsy and fashion loving city that has so little gay sites!
It may look touristy sitting next to the duomo, but it's actually a serious craft beer and vinyl place. Upstairs looks like a museum to classic album covers while the bar has great local beers on tap.
Just down the street from Piazza Santa Croce. Very cool place...the food is very good! The ideal bar to have an aperitif!
