Dale Tegman: These theaters remain unchanged in spite of a dispiriting building remodel. DO play games or get photo stamps in the lobby before the show. DON'T see anything in theater 4 the sound is awful there.

Dale Tegman: Cheap indy and "prestige" movies! Refillable large popcorns and sodas! A favorite during awards season when you can watch the Golden Globes and Oscars on the big screen for $10.

Dale Tegman: The fading, original home of "Midnight Mass" still presents SF late night exclusives. These programmers take chances. I've probably seen more movies here that actually shocked me than anywhere else.
Dale Tegman: Marc Heustis and Peaches Christ bring some awesome events to this space. The in-house programming veers toward family fare. Always come early for an organ concert.
Dale Tegman: The extra $ you spend for selecting/reserving your seat are worth it. Come early to lounge at the mezzanine wine bar or enjoy the adjacent restaurant. Fancy chocolate and gourmet treat snack counter!
Dale Tegman: As an architectural space, this is an armpit with escalators for hairs. It is excellent if you like spending all day sneaking into new movies on a single ticket, however.
Dale Tegman: Art movies that will change your life! Check the SF MOMA website for the program guide. Sometimes you can meet the filmmakers in person and purchase monographs in the gift store for them to sign.

Dale Tegman: Enter Bloomingdales- Take the elevator to the top floor- Exit to the mall- Take escalators up: avoid the Westfield Mall throng! Comfy joined seats recline deeply. A favorite venue for Oscar bait.

Dale Tegman: These are cramped spaces for films, but there is a lot of foreign and "high risk" fare that won't show anywhere else. Snack bar was first in SF to provide nutritional yeast for popcorn. Yay vegans!
Dale Tegman: One word: documentaries. Also worth going to their catered "Up The Oscars" event where the awards are presented on the big screen and costume contest winners get year passes. Owned by a cult.
