Mexico City Favorites

Amber: Arguably the best carnitas in Mexico City. Although a bit out of the way for the avg tourist, 100% worth it if you're looking for authentic, delicious and cheap. Always a line, but it moves quickly.

Amber: Pretty much everything here is excellent, but the ham and cheese croissant is my go-to. In a city that struggles to do bread well, this place is here for you when you need a carb fix.

Amber: Open late for a reason - this will be your go to spot for late night tacos, post long nights of drinking. Greasy in the best way, their tacos are larger than average and worth the likely wait.

Amber: If you're craving fried shrimp tacos, come here. 38 pesos each, perfectly crisp and tender, and all the toppings you could possibly want. Chile relleno also good. The horchata is decent too.

Amber: Friendly neighborhood spot with a good variety of customizable poke and ramen options, and reasonable prices.

Amber: By day, an auto repair shop. By night, some of the best tacos in the city. Get the Al Pastor or a Gringa. Great place to start or end a night.

Amber: The best of the Quentin outposts if you're looking to post up and get some work done. The largest of the locations (so you shouldn't have to fight for a seat), reliable wifi, and even a food menu 🙌

Amber: My fav street tacos in the Roma area. Don't skip loading up on the grilled onions and mashed potatoes (really) as complimentary taco toppings. For the gringos be warned: the green sauce is not mild 😈

Amber: Popular for their chilaquiles, but I come for the salads here when my body is ready to go on strike from an #alltacodiet. The Elfe is great (spinach and chicken base) and don't skip their agua del dia

Amber: Come for the excellent artisan coffee and friendly owner, but stay for the incredible japanese food - truly a hidden gem. Even if it's not on the menu, ask if the omu rice is available. 10/10

Amber: This tree lined avenue is one of the best places to run in all of CDMX - it's a 1.25 mile loop. Also nice to get paletas and walk around on a nice afternoon.

Amber: One of the classic restaurants of DF. Try to get a reservation, but if you can't, walking in on the early side is often successful. All the pastas are great, but my favorite is always the short rib.

Amber: Traditional preparation of heirloom corn varieties - everything that comes out of this kitchen is awesome. No menu but they're happy to accommodate preferences. Cash only (no ATM nearby)/close early

Amber: The tuna tostadas are just as good as everyone says, and don't forget a slice of fig tart for dessert.

Amber: To me, the heart of Mexico City. Lush and well-landscaped, full of trees, cute doggos, wandering paths and lovely benches. Quiet and relaxing during the week, great for people watching on weekends.

Amber: Small, quirky mezcal bar that opens onto a tree-lined Condesa street

Amber: All of the food is solid and the space is great. High ceilings and open air that looks out onto a public parklet. Highly recommend the fried chicken sandwich.

Hugo Juárez: Acogedor. Tranquilo. Romántico hasta para tener una cita contigo mismo. Dedicada atención. Probé 4 tragos y todos me gustaron. Ideal para conversar. Déjate llevar y experimenta con los tragos.

Amber: Super cute space, solid wifi, loads of outlets, and one of the only places in CDMX w/ decent cold brew. Baked goods not made in house but are tasty. Sandwiches not great. Pitchers of tea are awesome.

Amber: Unlisted address, get a reservation by calling their number on facebook. Guest bartenders change nightly.

Amber: Downstairs is a french restaurant, upstairs is a cozy bar w solid cocktails and if you're into it, traditional absinthe preparation. Rooftop seating also available. Often live music later in the week.

Amber: One of my fav popsicle places. The Cajeta (goat milk caramel for those who don't know) is ridiculously good and actually filled w/ cajeta. On a nice afternoon get a paleta & walk through Parque Mexico

Amber: You can’t come to CDMX and not get some churros, and El Moro is the classic spot. The dipping chocolates are rich and delicious, or if you want to mix things up get the three mini ice cream sandos

Amber: Molecular gastronomy meets cocktails.

Amber: Pro tip: Buy tickets in advance online so you don't have to wait in line. If there's time, the Leon Trotsky museum is nearby too.

Amber: If you're in Coyoacan and want to spend a lazy afternoon in a sprawling park, this is the spot for you. Part park, part tree nursery, each 'avenue' is lined with a different variety of tree.

Amber: Cute, casual, and the quiches are bomb. Great spot to grab a quick lunch.

Amber: everyone is here for the chamorro, a braised pork shank served with an endless supply of tortillas.

Amber: During the day, a good place to post up and get some work done - good cold brew, wifi and people watching. At night, good place to grab a carajillo and get the evening started.

Gastrobites: Uno de mis lugares japoneses favoritos, la comida es un poco cara pero vale la pena. Puedes comprar cosas para cocinar o comprar comida preparada. Sábados y domingos hay parrillada!

Amber: Edit: still great Thai food, but since they moved to the new location their prices doubled and the menu options got cut in half. It's a nice venue (could be a good date spot) but not my fav anymore

Amber: Tacos Kim: duck, scallions, cucumber and hoisin. As good as it sounds. Two for 70 pesos, and a cute, open air kitchen to boot.

Amber: Unlike everything else in the area, it's decidedly no frills. You're here for the cochinita pibil. The roasted, braised meat is meltingly tender and needs only a topping of pickled onions.
