If you come in the off-season (September-February) you can just walk in and take a tour with no ticket. Otherwise, in the height of tourist season you have to wait in line for a ticket at 8:00 a.m.
Free tours available here, must get tickets from the booth on 15th street, morning slots are fast to go, but anytime between 8-11am should guarantee you free tickets.
VERY difficult to get into... open times changed and place was closed by the time we got back. The tour schedule needs to be better thought out for those that are just visiting DC for a short time.
To get your tickets, you have to go to the front entrance (15th st). Tours are every 15 minutes. And the entrance for the tour is on 14th street. It's 40 mins long and super cool!
Not a damn thing. I am salty because the only reason that I go into the cafeteria is to get some grits. These folks have gone with some yellow grits that they are calling corngrits.
Don't believe the sign at the security booth saying the tickets are all sold out. Make sure to go to the back of the building to the actual ticket booth!
