Get in early and try the shajiangji (literally ‘sand ginger chicken’) before it’s sold out at dinner. Incredibly juicy and flavoursome poached chicken sprinkled with a blanket of fried minced ginger.
Fried Miao style fish is the thing to come back for. Nobody else in town does it anywhere as good. Casual, has backpacker hostel vibes, but the food is good and cheap. Large portions.

Try the mushroom and the duck egg yolk dumplings. My friend loves the crabmeat dumplings.

Must order: xunyu (Shanghai smoked fish), sautéed fresh river shrimp, huangyu (deep fried yellow fish w seaweed), and banmian. If you're brave, the braised sea cucumber in sweet sauce is excellent.
Best quality hot pot in the city but a bit of a rip off. Plan on spending 400 per person on food alone for a simple dinner...
