If you’re looking for ramen on a Tuesday night at 3 a.m., meet Benkei, a late-night ramen pop-up that opens in the space of Lower East Side restaurant Hill & Dale after they close up for the night.
Spicy Tonkotsu Miso Ramen is hands down the best ramen I've had here in the city. A thicker, heartier, broth with thick, wavy, noodles to complement. Excellent charsu.
Definitely good ramen, loved the option for pork shoulder and the broth in the spicy was great. That said, waited for an hour even being the first order in.
The late-night pop-up is open only after 12:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday. Don’t let the curt service and rollicking after-hours crowd deter you from tasting the tonkotsu ramen.
Think about the longest time you've had to wait for food at a restaurant. Then double that. Now add a few extra minutes cause you're drunk and impatient. That's what the wait here is.
