The museum here is on the site of the infamous Southwark prison known as the Clink, from which other prisons get their nickname. It was built in the 11th century, and torn down by rioters in 1780.

This church (consecrated 1729) was one of the six built by the brilliant Nicholas Hawksmoor. The organ was for a century the largest in England. It is now derelict, but there are hopes to restore it.
John Adams, the first American ambassador to Britain, lived in Grosvenor Square, and this is where the US embassy has been since 1938. It plans to relocate to Wandsworth by 2017.
This area was home to the short-lived Kensington Hippodrome, a horse racing course which stretched around the hill, from whuch Elgin and Blenheim Crescent get their curves. It closed in 1842.
Named after a former Lord Mayor of London (d.1703), this museum shows how the English home has changed from 1630 to 1998 with 11 ‘sample’ rooms, each with festive decorations at Christmas.
