The original name was simply “Caprese”. The “Michelangiolesco Museum” includes the house where Michelangelo was born, the Clusini Palace and the Rocca fortress.
Here Michelangelo lived during the illness of his mother and after her death (1481), in the house of a stonecutter and his family, in a farmhouse that is now the "Villa Michelangelo".

Inside Santo Spirito there is a wooden crucifix carved by Michelangelo in 1493 (after he left the Medici court) as a gift to the prior of the church.
It was designed by Michelangelo around 1530. He produced new architectural styles, such as pillars that became thinner at the bottom, and a staircase with contrasting rectangular and curving forms.
Is the “home” of Michelangelo’s David, a colossal statue symbol of Florentine freedom. The Galleria also hosts some unfinished works by Michelangelo: the 4 “Prisoners” and a statue of Saint Matthew.
Commissioned by Pope Leo X to reconstruct the façade, Michelangelo spent 3 years creating drawings and models. The project was then abruptly canceled and today the Basilica is still without a façade.
After the project for the new façade of San Lorenzo, the Medici asked Michelangelo to create their family funerary chapels in the Basilica. He worked on this project for much of the 1520s and 1530s.
Once the home of Michelangelo, it is today a small museum containing several sculptures and drawings, including 2 of his early relief sculptures: the “Battle of the Centaurs”, “Madonna of the Stairs“.
In the new hall on the second floor you will find Michelangelo’s “Holy Family and St John”, also known as the “Tondo Doni”. It was commissioned for the marriage of Angelo Doni and Maddalena Strozzi.
It houses a few of Michelangelo's sculptures: “Bacchus”, the most famous, "David Apollo", a bust of Brutus, and the “Tondo Pitti”, a round relief sculpture , depicting the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus.
The marble blocks for some of the most famous statues carved by Michelangelo came from the quarries of Carrara. In this Museum you can learn everything about history and culture of marble in the area.
Inside the Duomo there are minor works by a young Michelangelo: 4 sculptures in the lower niches of the altar - made between 1501 and 1504 - of Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Saint Gregory and Saint Pius.
Michelangelo died in Rome at the age of 88, but his body was brought back to Florence to be buried inside the Basilica of Santa Croce. It was his last request.
Dedicated to Michelangelo, it is one of the most famous places in the world, for the magnificent panoramic view of Florence! Here you will also find bronze copies of some of his works.
