This 370 metre long tunnel under the river opened in 1902, to ease congestion on the ferries that carried workers from south London to the bustling docks on the Isle of Dogs.
These gardens were created on the site of a scrap metal yard in 1895, both to improve the view from, and the view of, Sir Christopher Wren’s Royal Naval Hospital across the river.
One of the biggest objects in the maritime museum is Prince Frederick’s lavish state barge, built in 1732 for the son of George II, and used by royalty to travel along the Thames until 1849.
In 1616 Anne of Denmark, wife of James I, commissioned Inigo Jones to build the Queen’s House, the first fully Classical building in England. The house now forms part of the National Maritime Museum.
This is the tallest building in Britain (the HSBC building and Citigroup Tower are number 2 and 3 and are both nearby). It has 50 floors and is 235 metres high.

The next best views of London after Primrose Hill - worth a trek to the top by the Royal Observatory for the breathtaking panorama.
The home of Greenwich Mean Time, and therefore where each day and year commences. The Observatory’s original function was to improve sea navigation through knowledge of astronomy.

The name of this place has nothing to do with birds, but with the exotic goods that were once brought here from the Canary Islands. Canary comes from the Latin ‘canaria’, so ‘Islands of the dogs’.
The largest dome in the world and the largest single-roofed structure in the world was built amid some controversy for £789 million just in time for the millennium, completed in June 1999.
This stone memorial, with its single-word dedication, remembers the heroic death in 1853 of Joseph Rene Bellot, a French volunteer who died on a mission to rescue explorer Sir John Franklin.
Described as ‘probably the finest dining hall in the Western world’, this is also where Lord Nelson lay in state after his death at the Battle of Trafalgar. Thousands came to pay their respects.
Nice little mall that doesn't get overly crowded. Would recommend having a coffee in Canada Square - quite peaceful!
