Lincoln visited here 3 times. In 1859, he spoke from the east steps. In 1861, he visited Governor William Dennison & found out he won the 1860 election and lastly in 1865 after he was assassinated.

This building was built at the start of the Civil War, approximately around 1861. The statehouse took a total of 22 years to be built and in 1996 was restored to its original brilliance.

Movie buffs might recognize the Ohio Statehouse in the 2000 movie “Traffic,” where scenes from a press conference take place on the historic building’s steps.
