Andy McMillan: Great for a pint of Guinness, but my tip: ask for the whiskey list. They have an excellent, expansive selection, most of which isn't on display behind the bar.
Andy McMillan: A breakfast menu! In Belfast! In the Cathedral Quarter no less! Astonishing. Pretty standard faire, nothing compared to their lunch and dinner offerings, but a great hangover cure all the same.
Andy McMillan: One of the very few places you can get breakfast on the weekend. Take a sofa upstairs and, if it's on the menu, order the Eggs Benedict.
Andy McMillan: Fresh, affordable, considered dishes in a city overrun with too many "it'll do" restaurants. Opt for the beef sirloin or the sweetbreads, followed by the Bushmills jelly, and you can't go wrong.
Andy McMillan: If you're here to eat, you're probably after one of their already infamous burgers. But make sure you order the mac & cheese or mozzarella sticks on the side too, they're phenomenal.
Andy McMillan: The Green Room serves pizza Thursday & Friday from 5pm - 11pm and Saturday from 6pm - 11pm and—no kidding—it's probably the best pizza in town.
Andy McMillan: One of the best whiskey selections in Belfast, possibly second only to the Duke of York. The staff here are much more pleasant though, and more than happy to have you sample some fine Irish whiskeys.
Andy McMillan: The burger here is honestly the greatest thing you'll ever eat in your life. If you're staying for dessert, get the honeycomb ice cream with hot chocolate sauce.
Andy McMillan: Lunch: order 1 large plate + 1 small plate, or 2-3 small plates. Dinner: order 1 large plate + 2 small plates, or 4-5 small plates. Small but exceptional portions.
Andy McMillan: Towards the end of the menu you'll spot the Roast Vegetable Briam. Roast marinated courgettes, aubergines, new potatoes and peppers with feta and warm focaccia. Best thing on the menu.
Andy McMillan: Best coffee shop in south Belfast. Good coffee, free wifi, big tables, friendly staff. The bearded gentleman making your sandwich is Patrick, be sure to say hi.
Andy McMillan: Everything is good. Really, everything. I'm a fan of the pulled pork sandwich in particular, which you should be sure to slather with lashings of the carolina-style mustard sauce. So good!
Andy McMillan: Every delicious thing ever conceived is on sale at this specialist grocery store, but my advice: order a deli sandwich on their focaccia bread and take it to the lawn at City Hall. Top marks.
Andy McMillan: Here for lunch? Order the charcuterie & cheese platter (comes with marinated olives, tomato pesto, hummus, terrine & chargrilled olive bread).
Andy McMillan: While I'm sure the rest of the menu is great, the Ciabatta breakfast alone justifies a trek. Dry cured bacon, 2 fried eggs on an open toasted ciabatta with tomato chutney & parmesan. Good god.
Andy McMillan: Honestly, the greatest cocktail list in the world. Whisky cocktails especially. Sazerac, Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Negroni; all winners.
Andy McMillan: The cocktail bar downstairs is second only to The Merchant on Skipper Street. You can't go wrong taking through their rye selection for a spin though a few Old Fashioneds.
Andy McMillan: Despite being a restaurant in a hotel, this is actually one of the best places to eat in Belfast. I'm a fan of the lobster burger, which I suggest you follow with an Old Fashioned in the hotel bar.
Andy McMillan: Canteen, the MAC's restaurant and cafe, is a great spot to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon. Arrive early, work your way through the wine list, then stay for dinner. Lovely.
